Chinet® Introduces SFI Certified Napkins in Retail Market

This month Huhtamaki North America began shipping Chinet branded napkins with Sustainable Forestry Initiative® (SFI) certification.

Achieving SFI certification adds more depth to Huhtamaki’s commitment to sustainable practices. The SFI logo has been added to the napkin packaging and the product will be available in retail stores in August.

“For now, Huhtamaki’s Chinet branded napkins will be the only napkin in the marketplace with the SFI certification,” says Julie Stoetzer, marketing manager for the Americas’ Retail Business Unit. “We take pride in offering consumers a product that has met stringent guidelines that support sustainable forest management and responsible procurement.”

Manufacturers who participate in the SFI program must show their raw material comes from legal and responsible sources. From the logger, to the paper mill (pulp to tissue production), to the trucking company transporting the tissue, to the napkin manufacturer – all parties involved in the supply chain must meet SFI standards. For example, SFI certification standards require loggers to plant 100 trees for every 100 trees cut.

Adherence to SFI standards has not compromised Huhtamaki’s napkin quality. Consumers can expect to experience softness very similar to current Chinet branded napkins.
